An open source Motion Controller for DIY drones.

Motion Controller for any FPV drone

We all remember how a few weeks ago DJInew type of controllernew FPV drone with one hand. However, for all the uniqueness of the device, a significant disadvantage is the fact that DJI FPV drone is the only one with which the newly-made $ 199 product can interact. Not wanting to get involved with the DJI ecosystem, enthusiast Paweł Spychalski has developed his own open source Motion Controller, with which you can similarly control FPV drones and other hobby drone models without any connection restrictions.

How does it work?

To be clear, it should be noted right away that to implement your plans, you will still need traditional control equipment. Rather than reinventing the wheel, Pavel decided to use his Motion Controller as an add-on to interface with OpenTX hardware,-in his case, RadioMaster TX16S

How does it work?

In addition to the MPU-6050, the 3D-printed frame of the prototype also includes a TTGO LoRa 32 ESP32 peripheral board, an OLED display to provide some feedback, a joystick, a couple of buttons, a battery holder, and the lithium itself. an ionic battery with a capacity of 18650 mAh, which is used here as a power source for the ESP32 for the subsequent implementation of a wireless connection to the controller in order to quickly configure the latter.

Field performance test

In the video below, Pavel conducts the first test piloting using the Motion controller and is largely satisfied with the result. Some settings, as expected, will be further adjusted, but this is nothing compared to the fact that you can independently and relatively effortlessly create your own next-generation controller.
