Quadcopter Autel Robotics X-Star Premium - a complex high-tech product, but at the same time as simple as possible to use. Designed for high quality aerial photography, both in photo and video mode. Thanks to its autonomous qualities, the user does not need to have experience in UAV piloting, the drone does everything on its own, and the pilot only has to enjoy the flight.
Preflight state
There is absolutely nothing new here, when the drone is assembled, the pilot will need to install the Autel Starlink mobile application on his device (the default interface language is English).
Next, if the power of the drone and equipment are charged, it remains to perform a quick compass calibration. The procedure is classic and does not take much time. With the optimal number of satellites, this is one clockwise rotation of the drone in the horizontal position and one clockwise rotation in the vertical position.
Piloting modes
The drone developers took care of the safety of the first flight in advance and left the Beginner mode active. In this mode, the drone will have minimal activity, the altitude and flight range will be significantly limited. Advanced pilots will be able to disable Novice Mode in the flight settings menu of the mobile app.
Teaching mode
The "Teacher" mode implies the simultaneous connection of two units, where one is “Teacher” and the other is “Student”. Step-by-step instructions are available on the official website. Also, this mode allows you to separate the responsibilities of the pilot and the operator, one manages the drone, the other takes photo and video, controlling all the settings of the gimbal and camera.
Flight modes
Autel Robotics X-Star Premium received 3 programmed flight modes:
- GPS - in this mode, the tilt angles are minimal, the full potential of the stabilizing electronics of the drone is used, all autonomous flight modes are available. Suitable for aerial photography.
- ATTI - allows you to fly without reference to GPS. In this mode, the tilt angles are maximum, the full flight potential is revealed. Thanks to the complex of ultrasonic and photo sensors, you can fly indoors. If you release the control sticks, the quadcopter will not fall, but will hover, holding the position.
- IOC (intelligent orientation control) - in this mode, the quad does not matter at all where it is in front and where the back is, but the electronics strictly monitors the horizontal position of the quad. This mode will be most appreciated by beginners.
Autopilot
The X-Star Premium drone has 3 autonomous flight modes in its arsenal:
- Orbit - the drone is flying around a given point. Has a number of fine settings: (Radius / Number of circles / Choice of direction / Options for completion). At any time, the pilot can change the speed and radius of the flight.
- Follow - the classic "Follow me" mode, the drone will follow the control equipment or the paired gadget (IOS / Android), simultaneously taking pictures. During the flight, the drone will follow the shortest path, this should be taken into account, since the drone cannot fly around obstacles. It has a number of fine settings: Travel height / Return home options. The maximum speed of following in this mode is 35 km / h. If the drone lags behind the user, it will automatically enter altitude hold mode, awaiting further instructions from the pilot. Using the sticks on the remote control, the pilot can change the flight altitude and control the camera.
- Waypoint - plan a future flight, indicating on the map the points along which the drone will fly independently and take a survey of the route. The pilot can set the flight altitude for each point separately. In the process of following the right stick, you can adjust the flight speed.
