The Eachine Q90C: the beginner's collector FPV monster.

Introduction

Eachine Q90C - in fact it is a simplified version of the previous model Q90. Unlike its predecessor, the Q90C drone reaches the consumer in the RTF configuration, to be more precise, the control equipment and FPV goggles are supplied by default (you can buy a drone with or without goggles). Despite the fact that some of the features of the Q90C were partially canceled, it is worth noting that the presented model turned out to be more practical, especially for those who first began to explore the world of drones. What the updated Eachine Q90C has gained and lost is further in our review.

Motors

Eachine Q90C is powered by the powerful 8520 2S brushed motors. There is no information about KV (Eachine Q90 has 2S 8520 14000KV motors). Provides exponential dynamics compared to those used in standard budget quadriks. On the model shown, they are powered by 44mm 3-blade rotors.

The screws themselves are quite effective in this bundle, but the quality of their performance leaves much to be desired (each fall minus the screw / screws fly off the motor shaft). Therefore, when buying a drone, it is advisable to immediately buy a backup set of rotors made of better materials.

Since defects in the case of collector motors are a frequent tendency, future owners of Q90C are advised to buy one spare CW / CCW motor each!

Camera

PAL system. The module received a good FOV for FPV flights - 110 °. Lens format - F7. In general, in practice, the camera has proven itself to be the best. The disadvantages include the fact that the camera has not received tilt angle adjustment, which in itself excludes faster flights. Since the potential of the quadric is good without exaggeration, we will attribute this to a significant disadvantage.

Video Transmitter

The Q90C is equipped with a 25mW 8-channel VTX (Eachine Q90 has a 40-channel 200mW). The board itself is located at the top of the quadric. A close inspection shows that there are no Vfreq switches on the transmitter itself. In this case, the change of channels is carried out by means of a button on the control equipment. It is worth noting the quality of the FPV broadcast, for a 25mW VTX module this is more than.

Flight Controller

Unlike its predecessor Q90, which is built on the full-fledged F3 (F3 Brushed Flight Controller), Eachine Q90C received a custom version of the flight controller (Customized Version Augmentation Flight Controller), which in turn is also compatible with the Betaflight configurator, but the only thing that the pilot can change with software it is PID setting. This is what the instruction manual says. Further we will talk about what you will not find in the instructions:

Important!

By connecting the drone to the PC and launching the configurator, the user will see that in addition to the PID settings, other parameters will also be available for adjustment. So any manipulations with them (with the exception of the settings - PID) will lead to the impossibility of further operation of the quadrocopter (the quad turns over when it tries to take off, the motors work uncontrollably and at maximum speed). Factory reset will only be possible after installing the old version of BF 3.1.1 ( in detail on the video from 26 minutes )

Power

Quadric is equipped with two cans (2S) lithium polymer (LiPo) battery with a capacity of 300mAh and a discharge rate of 25C (Eachine Q90 2S 350mAh 30C LiPo). According to the specification, it provides a flight time of 6 minutes. In practice, this time was a maximum of 4 minutes 30 seconds (Eachine Q90 flight time is 5-6 minutes).

Control

Eachine Q90C is equipped with standard equipment based on RF module, XN297L chip (signal amplification module). Operates in the frequency range from 2.400 to 2.483GHz. The equipment is powered from 4 × AA (purchased separately). The removal distance corresponds to the declared value in the manufacturer's specification - 120 meters. The equipment received feedback from the drone through vibrations.

The remote control will vibrate frequently in the event of:

  • Low battery level of the drone / Equipment,
  • On loss of communication
  • Each time you press the row of lower buttons responsible for changing flight modes (Angel / Horizon / Manual), Rudder sensitivity (D / R), changing FPV channels or switching to game mode (CH / Game) and linking equipment with a drone (Bing).

Flight modes

3-flight modes available to the user:

  1. Angel - electronics on 100% controls the horizontal position of the drone, dynamics and tilt angles are minimal. Newbie mode. When you press the "Angel" button, the equipment vibrates once.
  2. Horizon - electronics control the horizontal position of the drone by 50%, giving the pilot more freedom in control. The tilt angles will become sharper, the speed will be higher. When you press the "Horizon" button, the equipment vibrates twice.
  3. Manual - electronic stabilization is disabled, tilt angles are maximum. Unleashes the full flight potential of the drone. The mode is suitable for advanced users. When you press the "Manual" button, the equipment vibrates three times.

Simulator support

Connect the drone to your PC and start the FPV flight simulator - FPV Freerider. Then calibrate the drone hardware in the simulator menu and practice wirelessly and without the risk of crashing the quad.

Price

Eachine Q90C quadrocopter is sold through all well-known Internet trading platforms at a price (for the version without glasses) - $ 63; for the version with FPV goggles - $ 88.

Pros

  • Powerful commutator drone / 3-blade 44mm rotors
  • High-speed
  • Good FPV camera 1000TVL / VTX operation
  • Acro and Rattitude flight modes
  • FPV VR006 goggles (for Googles version)
  • Weight (with battery) 60 grams
  • Indicative controllability and FPV ranges
  • Feedback vibration between the drone and the equipment
  • There is protection for the main rotor
  • Price

Disadvantages

  • Drone system failure (uncontrolled operation of motors) in case of correcting any other settings except PID
  • The angle of the camera is not adjustable
  • No built-in buzzer
  • No Failsafe in case of crashes
  • Poor quality of the stock rotors
  • Replacing the motors requires soldering
  • Weaker battery than the predecessor
  • The basis of the construction is plastic

If we omit the quality of the stock rotors and the strictly limited possibilities in adjusting the custom PC, the Eachine Q90C quadcopter is one of the most practical FPV solutions for novice pilots in RTF format. By combining high-performance 2S brushed motors with 3-blade rotor blades, the developers have managed to significantly improve the basic flight characteristics of the drone compared to its predecessor Eachine Q90. In control, the drone is exponentially good in all three flight modes, the potential of the motors is quite enough to cope even with moderate winds.

Distance and FPV broadcast quality deserve special respect, but still, do not get carried away with flying outside the line of sight, as the buzzer on this drone is not provided and the quadric is easy to lose. The strength of the drone is generally acceptable, only its rays are in doubt. In case of serious crashes, they are unlikely to be able to maintain their integrity, you should take this into account and choose open, unobstructed and uninhabited places for dynamic FPV flights. The Eachine Q90C is definitely worth the money spent and belongs to the category of long-term purchases. The age limit, the manufacturer has set 14.
